Design of Polarization Reconfigurable Patch Antenna for Wireless Communications based on Fluidic Control Method

Abstract :

Due to antenna orientation restrictions, improved channel capacity, and the elimination of multipath interference, polarization reconfigurable antennas play a significant role in contemporary wireless communication systems. For wireless communications, it is therefore highly advantageous to construct such antennas. This project suggests a fluidic control method-based circularly polarized patch antenna. Ethyl acetate, a liquid dielectric, is used to convert a patch antenna’s homogeneous substrate to an inhomogeneous one. Circularly polarized (CP) radiation is generated when two orthogonal fundamental transverse magnetic (TM) modes are stimulated with a 90° phase difference. Then, by injecting liquid dielectric into various channels in the substrate, the proposed patch antenna’s polarization can be switched between right-hand circular polarization (RHCP) and left-hand circular polarization (LHCP). The presented design displays three resonance frequencies that depend on the radiating patch’s W-slot structure.
