Abstract :

This project investigates the viability of employing piezoelectric materials to capture mechanical energy from moving vehicles on highways. The pressure and vibrations that result from vehicles passing over embedded piezoelectric transducers are transformed into electrical energy. The basic ideas of piezoelectric power generation are described in this abstract, along with possible designs for incorporating piezoelectric elements into highway pavements and an analysis of the variables that affect energy output, including traffic volume, vehicle weight, and material characteristics. By evaluating this technology’s potential as a sustainable and supplemental power source for highway infrastructure applications like lighting, sensors, and signage, the project hopes to reduce dependency on traditional power grids and promote energy efficiency. To estimate the potential for energy generation and pinpoint the main obstacles, preliminary analysis and simulations will be carried out.
